This is revolting
I am fully aware that we currently live in this Trumpian bubble, where virtually every day sees a new trove of grotesque, shocking if not downright tragic declarations and/or events unfold — the latter obviously being the most problematic. Only weeks ago, two innocent citizens got shot in the streets of Minneapolis by supposed law inforcement officers (none of whom have been arrested or charged for said actions to date). Meanwhile, the so-called leader of the free world was trying to literally steal Greenland away from Denmark, a European country and NATO ally. The latest, albeit more ridiculous episode: this social media video showing the Obamas portrayed as monkeys…
Obviously, this all happens while the Epstein files slowly keep getting released, which in and of itself is a breach of the law passed last year that called for an immediate release of all documents in the DOJ’s possession. Why, do you ask, haven’t all the files been released yet? Because Trump is all over them. He’s already all over the ones we know about, which gives you an idea of how bad the rest is.
And this man is supposed to be the President of the United States of America. To quote the great Seth Meyers, from his White House Correspondents monologue back in 2011: “Donald Trump has been saying he will run for President as a Republican, which is surprising since I just assumed he was running as a joke”. The only sad part is, of course, he did run, he did win, twice. But he is still a joke. A profoundly sad one at that.
The point is — we should not forget that this man and his cohort of useful idiots are despicable, would all be in jail for a variety of reasons if it weren’t for the fact that they are hypocritical sycophants kissing the ass of this wannabe dictator. But what they are doing all day and every day is plain wrong: imprisoning children, arresting citizens, killing them in cold blood, sharing insulting, xenophobic and/or racist content, publicly referencing the worst ideologies of the previous century… There is no place for ambiguity here, these are both abhorrent and illegal acts.
There is a silver lining in all that, though: reality eventually catches up with people who are in the wrong. Given the magnitude of what is currently happening, that should be soon. Preferably come the November midterm elections. Then we will see what remains of the criminal crassness of these men (and a few token women) once they get taken out of power and, hopefully, put to jail. I say hopefully, because Trump will use his presidential pardon like an Amazon gift card during the holidays, but there will be ways. And I for one would like to see Trump spend the rest of his life in a prison cell eating vegetables while he (ghost-)writes his memoirs about how his kids did it.
