School’s out
Last week, my first born finished her first year of school — ever. And she was super excited about the whole thing: the fact that she got to play with her friends till the very end, the fact that this was a Friday and Friday night is movie night at home… and of course the fact that school was ending, for a while. Not that she actually dislikes it: first year of kindergarten is essentially organized fun and she very much gets it. Although she hates waking up in the morning to go to said school. Like father…
That is clearly where parental life gets a tad complicated: we don’t have 2 months off, as it happens. Actually, my current schedule is pretty intense as I am hard at work planning for… the next school year. As I became head of a master program at the luxury school I teach at, it means I now have to plan for lectures on top of giving some. Sounds fun on paper ; filling out spreadsheets, less so in real life: the stuff that you fill out in said spreadsheets actually has to come to life at some point. Which means all of these great new modules we added to the curriculum now have to be fleshed out, the teacher who will actually be facing our students has to be found, the planning of those hundreds of hours of lectures has to be setup… All in good fun.
And there you have it: as my daughter now spends her days splashing water from inflatable swimming pools at playgroup, I am working on making master students’ future life as good as possible — considering that luxury strategy and brand management are not only appealing topics, but vital ones. At the very least if you wanna work at Gucci. Or Dior. Or Vuitton. Or… you get the gist, I’m currently speed learning my way through mountains of information on luxury brands I only had superficial knowledge of a mere few months ago.
Then we’ll all go on vacation because we’ll need it. Also because playgroup closes in August. School’s out for some.
