A couple of nights ago, I was having drinks — that would be tea, aka the strongest shit I drink at night — with a good friend of mine who also happens to be a published author — she drank tea too, to be clear, perhaps because she couldn’t quite picture drinking harder stuff alone. That’s what they call a positive influence, if you ask me, although you actually didn’t.
A little while later, her boyfriend called to say he was around and starting to feel hungry. So we decided to do what any civilized tea-drinking people would: we moved from our bar / tea room to a restaurant for round 2, aka food, with or without tea. Note: My friend’s boyfriend is also a writer, although more of a philosophy guy (as in he actually teaches philosophy), so his stuff is — even — more serious than my friend’s.
Me: So, what’s new with your writing, guys?
Friend: Well… Actually, I’ll be releasing a new book this fall!
Me: Very cool! What is it?
Friend: It’s an essay, a rather political one, you’ll see…
Me: Can’t wait! [Note: her political views do not necessarily match mine, but she’s a great writer, so I would still read it, and not just because she’s a friend]
Boyfriend: Interestingly, I’m also working on my own [new] book at the moment…
Me: Of course you are… [Note: I still haven’t started writing my book again, so it’s a bit of a touchy subject, in case you didn’t catch that already]
Boyfriend: Plus… we wrote a book!
Me: What do you mean, we?
Friend: Well, the two of us…
Friend: Last month.
Me: In a month?!
Boyfriend: Well, there were two of us… Anyway, we’re currently talking to publishers about it… On top of the rest…
Me: But… when do you guys sleep?!
Friend: When you watch Youtube videos.
